First Day of Spring

The first day of spring has arrived, and the long winter blues that most of us suffer in Canada are just about over for another year. As the sun begins to peel back the layer of snow and Ice that covered the ground, new life once again emerges from the dens and thickets, waking to the sounds of spring.

The ground has yet to be covered by crocuses or Richardson's Ground Squirrels, but as with every year before, the promise has never failed to be kept.

It is also time for everyone to get ready to plant what they can in gardens, which range from tiny flowerpots and barrels to large gardens covering acres.

Gardening and growing your own food are even more crucial this year and in the years to come. Many have forgotten the simple pleasure, peace, and nourishment that one gets from doing so.

Fortunately for everyone, the internet exists, and there are plenty of green thumbs and home canning and preserving folks to teach you the dos and don'ts of gardens, both small and large. Pinterest is one of the best sites for ideas to make your transition to gardening and indoor homestead living easy. You should be well on your way with that and YouTube.

Remember that sometimes things don't work out as planned, but as Lucy Maude Montgomery states in Anne of Green Gables, “Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it.”

Remember to support your local community businesses and farmer's markets. Today's community business is Bernie and the Boys at 305 4 Street w in amazing Drumheller Alberta.  Bernie's is a great family restaurant in the heart of Drumheller with great food and service. (bernieandtheboys.com)
