With Mark Carney now at the helm of the Liberal Party, Canada is switching into full election mode with what appears to be a head-to-head battle between the Liberals and the Conservatives.
As the NDP, Block, Green and PPC votes collapse, it is becoming more apparent that Canadians with the Trump Administration threatening our sovereignty and security are not willing to take a chance in voting for any of them taking security within the traditional Canadian political landscape.
With polls now showing the Conservatives and Liberals running neck and neck, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Carney, by pulling Poilievre's only real advantage by removing the consumer carbon tax and the capital gains exemptions, is now sending the signal that he is the new front-runner.
Poilievre, once the darling and knight of the opposition cries against the Government's tax agenda, looked all but uncomfortable in his own skin when addressing the Carney win in yesterday's Liberal leadership. The juggernaut that was his ship has now been trapped by the MAGA conservatives in his movement and his ability to separate himself from them and try to move to the center. Poilievre was reduced to talking about how Carney had made his money and trying to create some conspiracy around that.
Former Governor of the Bank of Canada Mark Carney, appointed by Stephen Harper, is now the Prime Minister Designate. Throughout his cross-country leadership campaign, Carney's economic expertise and understanding of income inequality issues have increasingly resonated with Canadian voters, along with his extensive experience and resume in both Private and public sector endeavors.
The two things that Poilievre most feared have come to pass. One that he would lose his platform rhetoric with the election of Donald Trump and two that his entire basis for calling an election would disappear in one night.
I have no doubt Carney will call an election. No matter who wins the next election, they will need a clear mandate to deal with our issues with the American administration and to build strong trade ties with other countries outside North American Borders.
With both parties spending most of their time smearing each other and saying all the things that are wrong with each other, Canadians are left with a tough choice: take a risk and replace the Governing Liberals with a New Government at the helm, or give Carney a green light to implement his policy objectives.
In times like this that we are facing, Canadians historically lean towards experience over making a shift just for the sake of making one. So, I predict the Liberals will probably receive a very clear mandate from the Canadian people at the cost of the Bloc Quebecois and New Democrats,
Quebecers fearful of American intervention on their rights within the charter, no longer given the threat of Trump's push, are talking or even slightly interested in sovereignty. They will move back towards what they feel is the safety of the Liberal Party.
New Democrats, with their more concentrated support, will face an even tougher challenge as their vote begins to erode. Their base will not stay and abandon ship to ensure Poilievre's defeat.
So politically, we know we have returned to the electoral Canada of old, with the Liberals winning in the East, Central, and West Coasts while the Conservatives hold a one-sided advantage across the prairies. One thing is for sure: a New Mandate is there to build a better Canada for Canadians, no matter which of the two prevails.
