Canada Begins to Move Towards Economic Stability Rather Than Being Dominated by American Foreign Policy

The language used by the USA administration has grown increasingly strained as Canada expands its international partnerships, notably with Europe and, most recently, Sweden. It now appears that the F-35 fighter jet program is unlikely to move forward, partly due to Canada's new strategic economic alliances. Canada looks set to secure a favourable agreement with Saab to manufacture the Gripen fighter jet domestically, including parts assembly and the creation of associated jobs.
While I do not identify as either Liberal or Conservative, I believe it is time for Canada to reconsider its relationship with the United States' expansionist policies. Canada should proactively seek opportunities to diversify its international engagement and shift its focus from the challenges facing the American economy.
The United States is considered one of the wealthiest nations globally; however, much of this wealth is concentrated among a small segment of the population, with limited distribution benefiting its broader citizenry. This has resulted in economic disparities reminiscent of the conditions prior to the 1929 financial crisis, where significant social needs—including housing, healthcare, food security, employment, and access to justice—remain unmet for many individuals.
Canada’s alignment with American foreign and economic policy has resulted in a comparable situation here.
A significant advantage is that Canada has the opportunity to resolve the issue by severing ties and progressing constructively.
Canada's success does not depend on the United States; rather, it is the U.S. that relies on Canada for vital resources like minerals and water. This dependence explains the anxious and aggressive responses from the Trump administration as Canada grows more independent.
We as Canadians have a long way to go to continue to rebuild our industry and many countries far larger than the USA to negotiate markets and trade. The USA under Trump has shut the door and are now paying a hefty price globally. Canada, however, is seen as the new and emerging market to preferably deal with.
Its time its Canadas opportunity to be an economic powerhouse on its own where no Canadian is left behind. As we embrace this potential; we must prioritize innovation, strengthen our domestic industries, and invest in education and infrastructure that empower every citizen. By fostering inclusive economic growth and forging diverse partnerships beyond our southern neighbor, Canada can shape its own destiny and set a global example of prosperity rooted in equity and resilience.
